Cleaning Workplaces During the Coronavirus Pandemic

While according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 29% of the American workforce is capable of working from home, cleaning workplaces during the coronavirus pandemic has taken on a new level of importance. Recent data has shown that the average work desk has 400 times more germs than a toilet seat, and the coronavirus has been discovered to be extremely resilient outside of the body, lasting for hours and even days longer than previously thought. In order to protect essential workers, many workplaces are taking extra steps to clean offices, kitchens, and other areas so as to limit the risk of exposure. Nancie Brown & Associates is available to provide its signature variety of detail cleaning, eradicating harmful pathogens.

Cleaning Workers on the Front Lines of Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic continues to unfold, creating new challenges for us to respond to. At present, the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has termed cleaning contractors as essential personnel, so we at Nancie Brown & Associates will continue to fulfill our obligations to commercial clients that are remaining open during the shelter-in-place order. Our cleaning operatives are already extremely highly-trained in order to maintain our high standards of cleanliness and personal safety during cleaning processes. However, our cleaning crews are taking extra precautions at this time in order to protect both our staff and our clients from potential communication of the virus. We are supporting the 2.15 million janitors and cleaning personnel who are being asked to face down the risk of infection with limited access to protective gear.

Keeping the Workplace Clean During the Coronavirus Pandemic

If you are part of a business or organization deemed essential that is operating in this pandemic situation, we advise you to prioritize frequent cleaning measures to prevent further spread of the virus to your workplace. Nancie Brown & Associates is, as always, available to provide deep cleaning of your office space, medical surgery, commercial kitchen, computer lab, warehouse, grocery store, or workshop. In the meantime, we advise the following measures:

  • Wash your hands— thorough application of soap and water is the best defense against coronavirus. The CDC recommends that you work up a lather and scrub for 20 seconds all over your hands, including under your fingernails, knuckles, between the fingers, and fingertips. Dry your hands thoroughly. If you don’t currently have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes that use 60% alcohol or stronger are somewhat effective. Give your colleagues/employees the capacity to wash or otherwise cleanse their hands: make sure there are well-stocked stations in restrooms, entrances, and areas where food preparation or mingling occur.
  • Social distancing— around the world, the one thing that has been proven to slow and halt the spread of the coronavirus outbreak is staying home. Unfortunately, not everyone has the paid sick leave or the flexibility in their work responsibilities to participate in this important public health initiative. If your workplace has workers that can feasibly do their tasks from home, or most of their tasks, rearrange workloads so only some of your team have to come in to work. The more people remain at home, the more effective social distancing is and the fewer days of productivity your company will lose through sick days.
  • General hygiene— when you cough or sneeze, do so into a bent elbow, or ideally, a tissue which you then immediately throw into the trash. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes: these are all means by which the virus and other pathogens can easily access the respiratory system, which is highly vulnerable to bacterial and viral infection. Personal protective equipment such as facemasks are strongly recommended for employees sneezing and especially coughing (coughing being one of the key symptoms of COVID-19). Make sure your team members have access to tissues and masks if necessary.
